With Easter approaching and brighter days on the horizon, the season brings a wave of cheer and quirky chocolate creations that are dominating shoppers' wish lists. Consumers are eagerly exploring the fresh and mouth-watering offerings for Easter 2026, with a tempting array of confectionery available, including a highly anticipated new launch from Waitrose.
First Impressions and Unwrapping
I had the opportunity to sample Waitrose's No. 1 The Blonde Almond Croissant Egg, and it proved to be an indulgent triumph. Upon peeling back the wrapper, the substantial heft of the egg immediately struck me, hinting at the rich treat within. The aroma of sweet, almond-infused chocolate notes filled the air, and even before taking the first bite, I felt confident this would be a winner.
Composition and Texture
This Croissant Egg is crafted from thick blonde-hued chocolate, studded with crunchy almond pieces, almond paste, and feuilletine wafer woven throughout the confection. The moment I enthusiastically sank my teeth into this lavish chocolate offering, it evoked vivid memories of an upmarket Caramac bar, while simultaneously boasting its own delectable and distinctive character.
Splitting it apart on a plate required considerable effort, revealing that the hollow chocolate croissant measures a full 1cm thick through its centre. On the Waitrose website, the Chocolate Almond Croissant is described as "hollow white chocolate with caramelised sugar, with feuilletine wafer, almond paste and chopped roasted almonds, decorated with milk chocolate, chopped roasted almonds and white chocolate powder."
Pricing and Market Impact
Priced at £15.00, though currently reduced to £12 at the time of publication, this indulgent confection weighs in at 275g. This wonderfully distinctive twist on the traditional Easter egg has been dominating social media feeds, capturing attention with its unique croissant form. It delivers all the thrilling anticipation of unwrapping an Easter egg while standing apart thanks to its innovative design.
Flavour Profile and Mouthfeel
In my view, this creation is original, imaginative, and the chocolate itself is absolutely exceptional. It is neither white nor milk chocolate, but a unique blonde variety. The subtle crispness of the wafer combined with the crunch of chopped almonds creates a wonderfully varied mouthfeel, enhancing the overall experience.
Consumer Trends and Waitrose Strategy
According to Waitrose, consumer appetite for Easter eggs kicked off earlier than ever this year. The retailer noted that online searches for "Easter" and "Easter Eggs" were already up 34% and 68% respectively in February 2026 compared to 2025. Waitrose is "elevating last year's viral chocolate croissant sensation" by capitalising on the popular almond flavour, resulting in this brand new No.1 The Blonde Almond Croissant Egg.
Continuing the croissant theme, Waitrose has additionally launched new No.1 6 Mini Blonde Chocolate Croissants. Crafted with decadent blonde chocolate and a velvety ganache filling, these petite croissants "add a little ooh la la to Easter."
