Urgent Recall: Power Banks and Household Items Pose Deadly Risks

Urgent Recall Issued for Dangerous Power Banks and Household Products

Consumers across the globe are being urgently warned to stop using a range of products immediately, following a sweeping series of recalls due to life-threatening safety hazards. The alerts, issued by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), highlight serious risks of injury or death from items including portable phone chargers, toys, and household appliances.

Deadly Incidents Linked to Faulty Wireless Chargers

In a particularly alarming case, approximately 429,200 wireless power banks manufactured by Casely have been pulled from shelves after reports of the devices overheating, swelling, or catching fire. These incidents have resulted in at least six people sustaining minor burns, and tragically, one fatality. A 75-year-old woman in New Jersey died in August 2024 after the charger she was using on her lap suddenly burst into flames and exploded, causing devastating second and third-degree burns.

Another frightening event occurred in February of this year, when a woman on a plane experienced a similar explosion from the same type of wireless charger, leaving her with burns. The CPSC first flagged these dangerous lithium-ion battery products in April last year, citing dozens of reports of safety failures.

Multiple Products Recalled Over Severe Safety Concerns

The power banks are just one of several products now subject to urgent recalls. On Thursday, April 16, the CPSC announced a comprehensive round-up of recalls due to serious and life-threatening risks. These hazards range from choking and battery ingestion to electric shock, fire, and severe burn injuries.

Toys and Magical Items: Expandable Magic Pocket Staffs, sold online to aspiring magicians, have been recalled after it was discovered they can shoot open without warning. This faulty mechanism has been linked to over 160 injuries, including eye damage, cuts, and temporary vision loss. Additionally, children's activity cubes and Montessori-style play sets have been removed from sale due to fears that small parts could break off and pose a choking hazard to young kids. Several gadgets containing button batteries, such as finger lights and toy laser products, have also been flagged as life-threatening if swallowed, because of the risk of severe internal burns.

Household Appliances and Equipment Under Scrutiny

Electric Pressure Washers: A number of electric pressure washers sold via Amazon have been recalled due to potentially deadly electrical faults. Safety officials warned that these machines lack a key protection device, meaning users could face a serious risk of electric shock or electrocution.

Tea Kettles and Gas Ovens: Arch Studio branded tea kettles, sold at Macy's stores and online from August 2025 to February 2026, have been recalled after reports that the handles can detach when heated, increasing the risk of serious burn injuries. Fisher & Paykel has issued a recall for freestanding professional gas ovens, sold at various retail stores nationwide between June 2025 and March 2026, due to similar serious burn risks.

Other Dangerous Items: Adult portable bed rails, sold on Amazon from 2023 to early 2026, were recalled over entrapment and asphyxiation hazards, and for violating mandatory safety standards. Portable generators made by Generac Power Systems have been pulled over fire hazards, while computer power supplies from Apex Gaming PCs are being recalled due to shock risks.

Immediate Action Required by Consumers

Authorities are urging consumers to stop using any affected products immediately and to check official recall notices for specific details and instructions. The widespread nature of these recalls underscores the critical importance of product safety and vigilance in the marketplace. Consumers should remain alert to updates from safety agencies to protect themselves and their families from these severe hazards.
