The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has issued a series of urgent product recall notices this week, warning consumers about significant health risks associated with specific beauty creams, bath melts, and duvet sets. Customers are being strongly advised to cease using these items immediately and return them to their point of purchase for a full refund. The recall list has been refreshed to include products containing prohibited ingredients like mercury, as well as items posing choking hazards or containing dangerous metal components.
Beauty Cream Recall Due to Mercury Contamination
Faiza Beauty Cream, marketed as a skin lightening product in distinctive purple packaging with yellow lettering, has been urgently recalled due to a serious chemical risk. Sold by Lajawab Foods Limited, this cream has been found to contain excessive levels of mercury, a substance strictly banned in cosmetic products under European regulations.
The OPSS issued a stark warning: "Mercury is forbidden for use in cosmetic products. Exposure to mercury may cause a wide range of adverse effects, including damage to internal organs, the circulatory system, and the nervous system. The product does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, commonly known as 'The Cosmetics Regulation'."
Consumers who have purchased this cream are urged to discontinue use immediately and contact the retailer for further instructions on returning the product.
Bath Melt Presents High Choking Risk
Scotch Mystic's Blackberry and Almond Donut Bath Melt has also been recalled due to a high risk of choking, particularly for young children and vulnerable adults. These bath melts, often used as an alternative to traditional bubble baths because they dissolve slowly in warm water, are designed to resemble food items.
The recalled product is specifically described as doughnut-shaped and adorned with real sugar strands on top, making it easily mistaken for actual food. The OPSS explained the danger: "The product presents a risk of choking as it is foreseeable that children or vulnerable adults could mistake it for food. Due to the composition of the product, if bitten it will disintegrate into smaller parts."
These smaller parts pose a significant choking hazard, especially for children under 36 months of age who naturally explore objects by placing them in their mouths. Parents and caregivers are advised to remove this product from bathrooms immediately.
Asda Duvet Set Recall Over Metal Pin Hazard
Supermarket giant Asda has recalled its Red & Pink Harlequin Super Snuggly Teddy Duvet Set due to the potential presence of metal pins originating from the manufacturing process. This duvet set was sold between August 2025 and January 2026 across various Asda stores and online platforms.
Asda stated in their recall notice: "It has been identified that a small number of products may contain metal pins originating from the manufacturing process. The presence of these foreign metal components poses a risk of laceration to users. The product does not meet the requirement of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005, so we have taken the decision to recall the products."
The recall applies to all duvet sizes in the Harlequin pattern, specifically those bearing the following product codes:
- Single: 5063089974438
- Double: 5063089974445
- King: 5063089974452
Customers who purchased these duvet sets are encouraged to check their product codes and return the items to any Asda store for a full refund. The presence of metal pins poses a genuine risk of injury during normal use, making immediate action essential for consumer safety.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards continues to monitor product safety across the United Kingdom, regularly updating their recall lists to protect consumers from potentially dangerous items. Consumers are advised to regularly check the OPSS website for the latest safety notices and recall information.
