Tesla Expands into UK Energy Market with Solar and Battery Bundle
Tesla Launches Solar and Battery Bundle in UK

Tesla is broadening its presence in the UK energy sector with a new subscription service that combines solar panels and the latest Powerwall 3 home battery for £199 per month. The offer, initially available exclusively to Tesla car owners, includes an eight-panel solar installation and the Powerwall 3, with installation and fixed costs covered under a zero per cent finance plan over four years. A deposit of £1,747 is required, but Tesla claims the package can save households approximately £1,450 annually on energy bills.

Integrated Energy Ecosystem

The move is part of Tesla's strategy to create a seamless energy ecosystem linking electric vehicles, home batteries, and solar power. Customers can also bundle the renewable energy package with a Tesla Model 3 for a combined monthly payment of £494, with the car starting at £295 per month. Tesla says the initiative aims to make renewable energy more accessible for households already using electric cars.

How It Works

The system operates simply: solar panels generate electricity during daylight hours, the Powerwall stores surplus energy, and that stored power can be used later to run the home or charge the vehicle. Tesla's Powerwall 3 is designed to maximize efficiency and integration with the company's electric cars.

Expanding Energy Ambitions

Tesla has secured an Ofgem licence to become an energy retailer in Great Britain, paving the way for future services that could combine vehicle charging, home batteries, solar energy, and AI-driven energy management. The company already operates a retail energy business called Tesla Electric in Texas, and the UK could see a similar offering soon.

Beyond residential solutions, Tesla is expanding its role in large-scale battery storage across Europe. It now operates the three largest battery energy storage systems on the continent by capacity. In the UK alone, Tesla has deployed over 1 GWh of Megapack systems across more than 15 sites, storing electricity from renewable sources like solar and wind for grid use during peak demand. The company claims this stored energy is equivalent to the daily electricity needs of 100,000 homes.

These large-scale projects help grid operators like National Grid manage increasing renewable energy inputs more reliably, while also enabling EV drivers to charge with greener electricity. Tesla owners can apply for the new offer through installation partner BOXT, while non-Tesla drivers can access alternative pricing through the same installer.
