Drying clothes indoors during winter can be a slow process, but laundry specialists at Lenor have shared a simple two-minute method that can help garments dry faster without a tumble dryer. The key is to give clothes a vigorous shake as soon as they come out of the washing machine, combined with an extra spin cycle, to significantly reduce drying time.
Why Shaking and Spinning Helps
Lenor's specialists explained: "The cold, damp winter months can make drying clothes in winter a challenge, particularly when you don't have a tumble dryer. In summer, drying clothes is much easier as your homes and garden are naturally warmer, so clothes can air dry quickly. But drying clothes indoors in the winter can take up a lot of room and a lot of time."
The specialists advised: "Give laundry a good spin and an extra shake when removing it from the washing machine to extract surplus water and damp." They also warned to check care labels before spinning, as some clothes are too delicate.
Hanging and Positioning Tips
Another crucial step is hanging garments up straight after the wash cycle finishes. Leaving them in the drum or washing basket can lead to a musty, mouldy smell. If space is limited, a curtain rod can serve as a makeshift drying rail.
When using a clothes airer, position it near an open window or in a well-ventilated spot. Spread garments out rather than bunching them together, and turn them every couple of hours to speed up the drying process.
