Three major UK banking giants are set to close more than a dozen branches in September as high street lenders continue to move away from in-person banking. Lloyds, Halifax and RBS are among the banks shutting branches next month, with the latest closures coming as customers increasingly turn to online and mobile banking.
Brand Consolidation
Close to 200 Halifax sites will become Lloyds branches in 2027 as part of the brand consolidation. Lloyds Banking Group's chief executive of consumer relationships, Jas Singh, said: "As Halifax changes to Lloyds, our Halifax customers will keep everything they know and love today - the same fantastic app design, the same friendly faces in our branches - even the same sort code and account number."
Reasons for Closures
The September closures come after Halifax shuttered 25 branches in June. The bank said decisions on the future of branches are "based on a range of factors, including how customers are choosing to bank and the availability of nearby services".
