A rollercoaster accident at Gröna Lund amusement park in Stockholm has left one person dead and nine others injured. The Jetline ride partially derailed just after 11:30 local time on Sunday, causing the front carriage to separate and plunge 20 feet to the ground.
Witnesses reported hearing a metallic noise and seeing the track shake before the car fell. Fourteen people were on the ride at the time. Three of the injured are in a serious condition and are being treated at a nearby hospital.
Park CEO Jan Eriksson declared a day of mourning and said the park would be closed for a week to allow police to investigate. 'Something like this should not happen at Gröna Lund, and yet it happened,' he said.
Sweden's culture minister Parisa Liljestrand expressed condolences, calling the news incomprehensible. The park, which has been operating for 140 years, is refunding tickets for the closure period.
