Discount supermarket chain Save A Lot is holding liquidation sales as it prepares to close a store in Lewiston, Maine, marking the third closure this year. The chain has already shuttered branches in Buffalo, New York, and Newark, New Jersey, and the Lewiston store's closing date has yet to be confirmed.
Closure Details and Reactions
Shoppers at the Lewiston branch, which was remodelled just three years ago, can save up to 10% on all products. Save A Lot described the closure as 'incredibly painful' and beyond its control. In a social media post, store officials stated: 'Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of our control we are no longer able to continue serving the community we’ve come to love so much.'
According to reports, popular US grocery chain Hannaford is set to take over the 51,000-square-foot space, marking its second store in the area. The new store is expected to open early next year.
Customer Sentiment
One Reddit user expressed disappointment: 'Kind of a bummer they are being chased out by Hannaford. They served a need for people in the area that’s not going to be replaced by Hannaford.' Another user shared: 'My grandpa used to take me to Save a Lot and Caswells for a lot of our shopping, then Edward’s for lunch. Thanks for the memories.'
Following this closure, Save A Lot will have three stores remaining in Maine.
