Five students have been taken to hospital following a serious school bus accident in Sydney's western suburbs. The incident occurred on Thursday, shortly before 1pm, when a packed bus veered off Erskine Park Road in Erskine Park and collided with a tree.
Emergency Response
Emergency services rushed to the scene, where they worked to free the driver, a teacher, and 41 students from Years 11 and 12 who were on board. Paramedics provided immediate medical attention to those involved.
The bus driver was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to Westmead Hospital for further assessment and mandatory testing. Five students, aged between 16 and 18, were taken to various hospitals for additional treatment. One student is suspected to have sustained fractures.
Aftermath
The remaining students and the teacher were shaken but reported no physical injuries. They have all been escorted home or back to the school. As a precaution, the northbound lane of Erskine Park Road remains closed while investigations continue.
