A British grandmother has sparked debate after revealing she removed towels from sunbeds reserved by holidaymakers at a Tenerife resort. Rachael Rogers, who was staying at the Mediterranean Palace, said she could not stand people who reserve sunbeds and then fail to use them for hours.
In a TikTok video that gained over 61,000 likes, Ms Rogers could be seen removing generic towels from sunbeds that had been unoccupied since morning. She wrote: 'Leaving the dirty pool hoggers a little surprise when they come back down.' Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she admitted she rarely sits by the pool but was frustrated when she wanted to read in the shade at 4pm and found a sea of reserved but empty beds.
The video sparked mixed reactions online. Supporters called her a 'legend' and said sunbed hogging was selfish, with one commenter noting: 'What annoys me is they don’t even come down to the pool when it opens, they come at 2pm or something.' Others branded her actions 'petty' and argued there were plenty of other beds available.
Ms Rogers expressed no regret for her actions, saying she wanted to give the hoggers a 'little surprise'. The incident has reignited the debate over the common practice of reserving sunbeds with towels early in the morning, only to return later in the day.
