Revolut and Lloyds are both experiencing outages, with users reporting problems making payments through the banking apps on the morning of 20 October 2026.
More than 1,500 Revolut users had reported issues with the UK-based bank by 8.09am, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector. Almost 65 per cent of reports related to problems with the app, while around 20 per cent related to problems accessing funds and eight per cent involved login issues.
Hundreds of Lloyds users have also reported issues. Roughly 38 per cent say they can't log into their online banking, while 23 per cent report problems with the Lloyds app. Almost 500 reports had been logged on Downdetector by 9.27am.
Revolut confirms service disruption
Revolut has said it is currently "experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple features". In response to a customer, the banking company said in a post on X that its engineering team is "actively working to restore full service as quickly as possible".
Revolut has confirmed that all its customers' money and data are safe amid the ongoing outage. "We've been working to fix the issue since it was identified this morning and apologise to anyone affected and for any inconvenience caused," the company said in a statement on X.
The outage appears to be widespread, with customers in countries such as Japan, France and Spain among those to report issues with the banking app. The British financial technology company headquartered in London operates in more than 40 countries across the world.
Customers report being stranded and embarrassed
Revolut customers have taken to social media to voice their frustration over the ongoing outage. While some customers have complained about being unable to pay for coffees, others say they have been left "stranded" after being unable to buy tickets for their journeys.
One user wrote on X: "You left me thoroughly embarrassed at a BP Service Station this morning when my card was DECLINED while trying to pay for a simple cup of coffee!" Another customer said they felt "so ashamed" after being unable to pay for their drink at a busy coffee shop.
Revolut's post on X announcing the outage has racked up more than 1,000 likes and 600 comments in less than an hour. A comment with more than 300 likes reads: "I'm at a petrol station in Australia. Can't pay for my fuel that I just put in my car .. so I'm just standing in the petrol station highly embarrassed and can't get home to my kids. Won't trust Revolut again."
Another widely liked comment states: "You realise you're not Candy Crush right? People are stuck on trains and can't pay for food and coffees they've already had in stores."
Outage follows reports of potential dual listing
Today's outage comes after reports Revolut's founder and boss revealed that the bank is considering a dual stock market listing in London and New York. Nik Storonsky told French newspaper Les Echos last month that the fintech prefers the US for a potential initial public offering (IPO).
But he added that the Canary Wharf-based company is still looking at a dual listing on the London Stock Exchange and New York's Nasdaq index. A London listing would be a major boon for the city's stock market, following a dearth of recent listings, with many firms opting against going public or floating in other markets such as New York.
A listing would be expected to make the company - which was most recently valued at 121bn US dollars (£90bn) in a share sale - one of the UK's largest public companies and potentially surpass rival banks including Barclays and NatWest Group.
Revolut is a British financial technology company co-founded by Nik Storonsky and Vlad Yatsenko in 2015. Storonsky is its chief executive and largest shareholder, holding more than 25 per cent of the company. The fintech reported a record £1.7 billion in pre-tax profits for the 2025 financial year, up from £1.1 billion in 2024, as customer numbers surged by nearly a third. Revolut secured the long-awaited all-clear in March to operate as a fully fledged bank in the UK.
