A mum has shared her KFC-style fakeaway wrap recipe using Aldi ingredients that costs just £1.40 per wrap – a fraction of the price of an £8 KFC burger. She says the whole family will love it.
Recipe details
The mum, named Helen, claims the wraps taste even better than the real thing. Compared to KFC burgers priced at £7.49 and £8.29 on Deliveroo, the homemade version is a bargain at £1.40 per wrap, or £5.60 for four.
Helen recommends using Aldi frozen breast fillet burgers, along with hash browns, shredded iceberg lettuce, mayo, hot sauce, mini wraps, and four to six cheese slices depending on how cheesy you want it.
Step-by-step method
Cook the chicken burger according to packet instructions – Helen used an air fryer. Add the hash browns about eight minutes in so they finish at the same time. While cooking, shred the lettuce and mix the mayo and hot sauce to your preferred spice level.
Assemble the wraps by spreading sauce on the wrap, then layering cheese, sauce, chicken, cheese, hash brown, and more cheese. Fry the wrap in a medium-heat pan on both sides, using tongs to crisp the bottom edge. Finally, open the wrap and pile in the lettuce.
Why fakeaways are a good idea
Fakeaways offer the Friday night treat feeling without the hefty price tag of takeaways, which can become costly with delivery fees and extras. Homemade versions cost significantly less per portion, and you can batch-cook and use leftovers.
They can also be healthier, as you control the ingredients and cooking methods. Takeaways often contain high levels of salt, sugar, and saturated fat, with more oil than you'd use at home. With a fakeaway, you can make swaps like leaner meats, extra veg, and wholegrain wraps, while still packing in flavour with herbs and spices.
