MoneySavingExpert (MSE), the consumer advice website founded by Martin Lewis, has flagged a deal that gives Lidl shoppers a free bakery item every time they shop. The offer runs until August 19 and is available through the Lidl Plus app.
How the Lidl Plus deal works
Customers can get a free bakery item from a selection of two or three items each time they shop, using the Lidl Plus app. The range includes favourites such as brownies, doughnuts, muffins, and pretzels, priced from 49p to 99p. The app is free to download, making the deal attractive for shoppers wanting a sweet treat.
To qualify, shoppers need to buy at least one item, excluding gift cards. The coupon remains valid for seven days, and shoppers can get a new coupon after every shop within the promotional period, provided more than 24 hours have passed since the last purchase.
Redeeming the coupon
Only one bakery item coupon can be redeemed at a time. After purchase, shoppers look for the 'Bakery Spin' icon on the Lidl Plus app homepage and spin a virtual wheel to see which free bakery item they can get.
MSE also promoted the deal on Facebook, writing: "Freebie alert! You can get a 'free' brownie, doughnut, pizza and more Lidl bakery items every time you shop at Lidl until Wednesday 19 August."
Shopper reactions
In response, one savvy shopper shared their strategy for maximising the app. They claimed: "Three of us in the household, and we all have a Lidl App. When one of us goes shopping, we make sure we buy one item on two of the apps and the rest on the main one we are using to collect their bonus points."
The shopper added: "Also been going each day to get items rather than buy once a week. Planned out for the bakery offer. The app used the least has recently been sent freebie rewards. Obviously to encourage the use of the app." They noted that this week's freebie was a free veg item, which they used for a 7.5kg bag of potatoes, while last week's free fruit item was used for a 1kg punnet of strawberries, and the week before a free bakery item was redeemed for an in-store Tiger Loaf.
