Supermarket giant Morrisons has announced a new initiative that will help families cut their shopping bills. The chain, headquartered in Bradford, has confirmed that the NHS Healthy Start Prepaid Card can now be used across all of its more than 1,800 branches nationwide.
What is the NHS Healthy Start Card?
According to the NHS, the Healthy Start card is available to those who are over 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under the age of four. Eligible individuals will receive a card loaded with funds, with additional benefit payments added every four weeks. The card requires an initial £8.50 payment and can be used to purchase plain cow's milk, fresh and tinned fruit and vegetables, fresh and tinned pulses, and infant formula based on cow's milk.
Support Across the UK
Those living in Scotland can access support through Best Start Foods. A statement on the Morrisons website says: "Did you know that you can easily use your NHS Healthy Start prepaid card right here at Morrisons? This card provides vital weekly funds for eligible low-income families and pregnant women. Use your card in our stores just like a regular debit card to purchase essentials like milk, fresh fruit, vegetables, and infant formula. Visit the NHS website to find out more."
Morrisons Background
Morrisons was established in 1899 by William Morrison, starting life as an egg and butter stall in Rawson Market, Bradford. Prior to 2004, the supermarket's stores were predominantly located in the north of England, but following the acquisition of Safeway, its footprint expanded considerably across the remainder of England, Wales and Scotland.
