Matalan Recalls Squishy Toy Eggs Over Serious Health and Choking Risk
Matalan Squishy Toy Recall Over Serious Health Risk

Parents across the UK are being urged to immediately stop using two popular soft toys sold by retailer Matalan, following an urgent recall issued by product safety authorities.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall involves the Squishy Dino Egg and the Squishy Unicorn Egg. These toys are moulded eggs that come in various colours. Each egg contains an aqueous solution, beads, and a small plastic dinosaur or unicorn figure inside.

Why Have The Toys Been Recalled?

The Office for Product Safety and Standards has taken action after identifying that the toys present a serious microbiological and choking risk.

The primary concern is that the eggs can burst easily. If this happens, they release small parts, which pose a choking hazard, and the liquid solution inside.

Laboratory testing found this aqueous solution contained an excess of aerobic microbials. If a child inhales the liquid or handles it, they could be exposed to these microbes. This exposure could lead to adverse health effects, particularly for individuals who are immunocompromised.

Furthermore, the products have been found not to comply with the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011, the legal standard for toy safety in the UK.

What Should Parents Do?

The warning is clear: stop using these toys now. Consumers who have purchased either the Squishy Dino Egg or Squishy Unicorn Egg should cease use immediately to prevent any potential harm.

This is a developing story, and further updates are expected. Parents are advised to check their children's toy boxes and remove these specific products without delay.
