Matalan Recalls 7 Baby Clothing Items Over Injury Risk from Poppers
Matalan baby clothes recalled over injury risk

High-street retailer Matalan has issued an urgent product recall for several of its baby clothing lines, warning parents that faulty poppers could cause injuries to infants.

What Products Are Affected?

The recall is specific and targets only seven identifiable items. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) has confirmed that the recall involves specific 'Dungarees, Rompers and Sweater Sets'. The issue stems from some of the clothing's poppers, which are reported to have rough edges. These defects could potentially lead to infants receiving cuts or scrapes.

The affected items, each with a unique product code, are as follows:

  • Floral Jersey Romper (C321632)
  • Unisex Bear Quilted Romper (C321634)
  • Unisex Bear Quilted Sweat Set (C321623)
  • Quilted Crew Sweat and Jog Grey (C331713)
  • Herringbone Dungarees in Beige (C321633)
  • Bear 3D Jersey Dungarees (C321625)
  • Print Dungarees & Tee in Oatmeal (C321624)

These products, manufactured in India, were sold in Matalan stores and online between July 13, 2025, and October 17, 2025.

What Should Customers Do?

Matalan has stated that customer safety is its highest priority and is urging anyone who has purchased any of the listed items to stop using them immediately.

The retailer has confirmed that the products do not comply with the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. Customers are advised to return the affected clothing to their nearest Matalan store to receive a full refund. No receipt is required for the return.

For further information or assistance, customers can contact Matalan directly by calling 0333 0044444 or by emailing customercareceo@matalan.co.uk.

Official Statements and Next Steps

In an official notice on its website, Matalan apologised for the inconvenience, stating: "It has come to our attention that the above rompers and sweat sets do not meet our usual high standards for quality and safety."

The company emphasised that this recall does not affect any other Matalan products. Full details of the recall can be found on both the Matalan website and the official GOV.UK website.
