A French factory worker who won £15 million on the lottery has kept the news from his 30-year-old son, fearing it would stop him from working. Alain, who has not given his surname, says he now lives 'the life of a wealthy retiree' and earns ten times his previous salary from investments.
The man, who played the Loto for over a decade using the birthdates of loved ones, checked his numbers while in the middle of a house move. He told French lottery operator FDJ: 'I saw that the amount was huge, with lots of zeros, but I was worried about my move. I told myself I would see what happened the next day.'
After confirming the win, Alain quit his factory job and bought a renovated villa with a swimming pool. He also purchased five cars, including a Porsche and an Aston Martin, along with 'two or three' watches. He has given his son luxury holidays but has not revealed his fortune.
'My son is young, I don't want him to stop working and continue living without knowing the value of money,' Alain explained. 'So I didn't tell him anything. He enjoys what he does, I don't want to stop him in his tracks.' He has only told his sister about the win.
