EV drivers earn Virgin Points on every charge via InstaVolt

Electric car drivers can now earn rewards towards flights, holidays and days out simply by charging their vehicles, thanks to a new partnership between InstaVolt and Virgin Red. The deal, launched today, allows motorists using InstaVolt's nationwide ultra-rapid charging network to convert their charging rewards into Virgin Points, which can be redeemed against everything from Virgin Atlantic flights and upgrades to cinema tickets, meals out and hotel stays.

How the rewards scheme works

Under the scheme, drivers earn between one and 15 reward points, known as Volts, for every £1 spent charging through the free InstaVolt app. These can be exchanged for Virgin Points at a rate of one for one, or used to reduce the cost of future charging, with each Volt worth 1p in charging credit.

Unlike some loyalty schemes, InstaVolt Miles requires no paid subscription or additional sign-up. Drivers using the app are automatically enrolled, although Virgin Red membership is required to transfer points.

Network coverage and charging tariffs

The rewards are available across InstaVolt's network of more than 4,000 chargers at 1,200 locations nationwide. Motorists can also collect points when taking advantage of InstaVolt's cheaper overnight charging tariff of 55p per kWh, available between 8pm and 7am.

Delvin Lane, chief executive of InstaVolt, said: "With InstaVolt Miles, every charge earns them something back, whether that's money off their next charge or Virgin Points they can put towards anything from cinema trips and days out to holidays and experiences."

He added: "There's no subscription fee or membership cost. It's all included in our free InstaVolt app, so drivers can simply charge as they normally would, earn Volts and choose how they want to use them."

Benefits for electric car owners

Andrea Burchett, chief loyalty officer for Virgin Group, said: "Our partnership with InstaVolt does just that, turning regular charging stops into something to look forward to."

The partnership gives electric car owners another way to benefit from everyday motoring costs, with rewards accumulating each time they plug in. Virgin Points never expire, allowing drivers to save towards larger rewards such as holidays or use them sooner for smaller treats. Rewards are subject to availability and terms and conditions, with additional taxes and charges applying to certain flight redemptions.
