Decathlon has issued an urgent recall for the Hamax Buddy Baby Seat after it was found that the textile safety label attached to the harness strap poses a choking hazard for young children. The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.
Reason for the recall
The label may detach, creating a small part that a young child could place in their mouth and choke on. As a result, Decathlon has recalled the baby seat from customers. The affected product is the red and black Hamax Buddy Baby Seat with model code 8591602 and item code 4091054, sold in Decathlon stores between December 28 2020 and August 6 2026.
Customers who purchased the seat, which is designed to be attached to a bicycle, are urged to stop using it and return it to their local Decathlon store for a full refund or label removal. Alternatively, shoppers can remove the label themselves to eliminate the hazard. Baby seats without the label are not affected.
What Decathlon advises
A Decathlon spokesperson said: "It's been identified that the fabric safety label on the harness strap may not be securely attached. There's a risk that a child could detach the label, creating a potential choking hazard. Please stop using this child seat until the label has been removed."
"Check the shoulder harness strap on your seat. If the textile label shown in the image is present, completely cut it off the harness strap. Once the label has been removed, the choking hazard is eliminated and the seat is safe to continue using. If your seat does not have this label, it's not affected."
"If you prefer not to remove the label yourself, please bring your seat to the workshop counter at any Decathlon store, where our team will do it for you free of charge. Our Customer Relations Centre is available to address any of your inquiries by WhatsApp at +44 (0)748306 8343 or by email at customer.enquiries@decathlon.com. We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
