A young child in a pram suffered minor injuries after a firework was thrown towards a mother and her children in the Linkwood Place area of Drumchapel, Glasgow, at around 6.35pm on October 31, Police Scotland has confirmed.
The family were left shaken by the incident, which took place on Halloween night. Officers have warned that the consequences could have been far more serious.
Police appeal for witnesses
Detective Constable Ashley Convery said: “This was a completely reckless act that left the woman and her children understandably shaken. The child sustained minor injuries as a result of this incident, but it could’ve ended much worse.”
She added: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed people in the area that evening in possession of fireworks to please come forward with information. I would also ask those with private CCTV or dash-cam footage to review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
Extra officers ahead of Bonfire Night
Police have also confirmed that additional officers will be deployed in the community ahead of Bonfire Night. DC Convery warned: “This type of behaviour will not be tolerated, and additional officers will be out across the community ahead of Bonfire Night. Anyone who engages in this type of reckless behaviour will be identified and brought to justice.”
The incident comes amid reports of fireworks being thrown at members of the public in other parts of Glasgow, as well as Tranent and Bonnyrigg, on October 31.
How to report information
Detectives are urging anyone who saw people carrying fireworks in the area that evening to come forward, and are also asking residents and motorists to check CCTV and dashcam footage for anything that might help identify those responsible.
