A couple from Iowa has been left devastated after more than half of their wedding guests failed to attend, leaving them £22,000 out of pocket. Gray Narvaez-Dragion, 19, who uses they/them pronouns, shared their distress on TikTok, revealing that out of 88 confirmed guests, fewer than 40 turned up.
The video, which has amassed over eight million views, showed rows of empty tables at the venue. Gray and their partner Nyx had to cancel the sparkler send-off, private dance, and dinner, cutting the reception short. 'Been in tears for hours over this,' Gray wrote.
In subsequent videos, Gray showed the RSVPs and their emotional reaction. One clip displayed tear-stained makeup with the caption: 'We literally sat in the empty ceremony room together and cried.' Gray added that they had spent most of their money on gifts for guests, including magnets and soap samples, which now serve as painful reminders.
The financial strain has been severe, with Gray losing their job and struggling to afford food. 'I can't afford our own food after I got fired and not even half attended. I'm devastated,' they said.
Despite the disappointment, many TikTok users have shown support, offering to buy wedding gifts and praising the couple's strength. One attendee wrote: 'Our table loved the soaps and spell jars... I appreciated even having little gifts for coming.' Another urged Gray to cut ties with those who didn't show.
