Charity Shop Prices in Affluent Rutland Town Leave Shopper Stunned

A bargain hunter was left astounded by the prices she encountered at a charity shop in the affluent town of Oakham, Rutland. Lola Amuah, from Derby, visited the store with her husband Pete and found items such as a Lanvin scarf for £18, a DKNY handbag for £40, and a Burberry silk scarf locked in a cabinet for £70.

Pete discovered a leather handbag priced at £80 from an unfamiliar brand, Selva From Triad, made in Brazil. Lola admitted she had never heard of the label. The couple also noted an Andy Pandy mug priced at £10, reduced from £15, which Pete claimed he had seen elsewhere for just 50p.

Lola, who appeared on BBC's Shift the Thrift earlier this year, shared her experience on Instagram. She said she loves charity shopping for sustainability and the thrill of finding rare gems. However, the Oakham shop's prices drew criticism from followers, with one calling them 'punchy' and another noting the town has 'the most expensive charity shops'.

Some commenters suggested the items may have originated from a local charity clothing sale. Despite the high prices, Lola described Oakham as a 'beautiful little town'. The couple left without purchasing the more expensive items, but Lola did pick up the Lanvin scarf and DKNY bag.
