Autocar journalists have ranked the best electric cars for families, with the BMW iX taking the top spot. The list highlights the growing number of electric vehicles suitable for families on UK roads.
BMW iX: The Top Pick
The BMW iX was praised for its near-faultless handling and ride, competitive pricing, and long range. However, reviewers noted its poor efficiency, divisive styling, and frustrating user interface. Starting at £75,000, the iX offers generous SUV-level comfort and a relaxing luxury ambience.
Volkswagen ID 7: Second Place
The VW ID 7 saloon, starting around £52,000, impressed with incredible ride comfort and practicality. It was deemed easy to drive but lacking in infotainment and driving engagement. Autocar described it as a class-leading electric saloon with limousine-like rear space.
BMW iX3: Third Place
The BMW iX3, starting at £65,000, was lauded as a technological step up with good driving dynamics and pleasing aesthetics. Negatives included a complex cabin layout and less impressive ride quality. It offers ample storage and a large boot.
Reach Plc reviewer Christopher Sharp, who attended the iX3's UK launch, praised its handling despite its 2.3-tonne weight, noting effective communication through the seat, steering, and pedals. He expressed hope for future BMW Neue Klasse models.
