Shoppers are counting down the days until Amazon's Prime Day sale, but MoneySavingExpert (MSE) has issued a word of caution. The consumer website, founded by Martin Lewis, urges customers to 'look out' for better deals elsewhere.
Prime Day Returns
The retailer's annual event returns next week, running from June 23 to 26. Available to Amazon Prime subscribers, the event features discounts across a wide range of top brands. It could be ideal for shoppers who already have their eyes on a particular product and are hoping to snap it up at a reduced price.
MSE's Advice
MoneySavingExpert has warned shoppers to 'look out' in case they can secure a better deal elsewhere. The money-saving experts pointed out that rival retailers could offer more competitive prices, even during sales periods.
MSE said: "Amazon's not always cheapest, even during a promo event – so use price comparison tools. If there's a product you're looking for, use a 'shopbot' comparison tool such as Google Shopping and Price Spy to find its cheapest online price on that day." The guidance noted that some sites may favour certain retailers.
MSE added that shoppers should also 'look out' in case any retailers offer a price match and better perks, such as a better guarantee. The advice said: "Look out for price-matching from other retailers. Check AO.com, Argos, Currys, John Lewis, Joybuy and others who may offer free extras such as a longer guarantee on some products."
Event Details
Amazon Prime Day ranks among the biggest sales events of the calendar year. Although the event spans a four-day window, shoppers can look forward to a changing selection of deals. The event officially kicks off at 12am on June 23 and wraps up at 11:59pm on June 26.
Last year, the event took place in July, with deals covering everything from summer essentials to beauty and tech. Those keen to take part can sign up at any point during the event and will receive instant access to all available offers.
Early Deals and Membership
Amazon has already begun offering discounts on selected products, having launched a number of Early Prime Day Deals on popular items, including Ring doorbells and Apple AirPods. An Amazon Prime membership typically costs £8.99 a month, although Amazon is currently offering a free 30-day trial to new customers.
Prime members automatically receive access to Amazon Prime TV, with membership also including free next-day delivery on all eligible purchases. Amazon states: "When your free trial or membership period ends we'll automatically charge for the next membership period."
The retailer also shares information about its cancellation policy. Amazon explains: "If you signed-up for your Prime membership directly through us, you may cancel your Prime membership at any time by visiting Your Account and adjusting your membership settings. Paid members who haven't used their benefits may be eligible for a full refund of the current membership period."
