Amazon Baby Playpen Recall: 70 Units Pose Suffocation Risk
Amazon Baby Playpen Recalled Over Suffocation Risk

A popular infant playpen sold through the online retail giant Amazon has been urgently recalled in the United States over fears it poses a potentially fatal risk of suffocation to babies.

Urgent Safety Warning Issued

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the official recall notice on Friday, 22nd November 2024. The product, known as Play Yards, was available for purchase on Amazon from March 2024, with a price tag of between $100 and $110.

Manufactured in China by Guangzhou Tinger Trading Co., Ltd., which operates under the name Anna Queen, the playpens have been found to violate mandatory federal safety standards for such products.

Specific Product Details and Identifiers

The recall is specific to the playpen with the Model number P700 and a production date of 202503. These identifiers are located on both the product's packaging and a removable tag attached to the item.

Visually, the recalled play yard features black mesh sides and distinctive white fabric-covered top rails. The fabric is decorated with a multi-coloured print depicting bear faces, paw prints, and the word "bear".

The core safety failure involves the mattress. The CPSC warns that infants can become trapped underneath the mattress or in a dangerous gap between the mattress and the side of the play yard. This entrapment creates a severe suffocation hazard that could lead to death.

Consumer Action and Refund Process

Approximately 70 units of the hazardous playpen are included in this recall. Fortunately, as of the recall announcement, no injuries or incidents have been reported in connection with the product.

Consumers who own this product are being urged to take immediate action. They should:

  • Stop using the playpen immediately.
  • Disassemble the fabric cover from the frame.
  • Cut up the mattress pad and its cover to prevent any possibility of resale or reuse.
  • Dispose of the destroyed pieces.

To receive a full refund, owners must send a photograph of the destroyed product as proof to the seller at the email address: tingerservice@outlook.com.
