Three-Minute Air Fryer Cleaning Hack Removes Stubborn Grease, Expert Says

Cleaning an air fryer can be a tedious task, especially when it is coated in oil, marinades, or meat drippings. However, a cleaning enthusiast has shared a method that promises to remove stuck-on grease in just three minutes using three common household items.

Daniela Alvarez, writing for The Kitchn, tested five different cleaning approaches and awarded top marks to a technique combining washing-up liquid, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. She described the method as 'the most powerful, speedy but efficient method' she tried.

To use the hack, spoon two tablespoons of baking soda and two tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide into the air fryer basket, then add two squirts of washing-up liquid to form a paste. Alternatively, mix the ingredients in a bowl before applying. After letting the paste sit for one minute, scrub the basket with a soft toothbrush for about two minutes, then rinse under running water using the smooth side of a sponge.

Alvarez reported being 'seriously impressed' with the results, noting that all stuck-on food, grease, smells, and most dark grime were completely gone after rinsing. She attributed the success to the combination of washing-up liquid, mildly abrasive baking soda, and the enhancing properties of hydrogen peroxide.

For those unable to source hydrogen peroxide, white vinegar can be used as a substitute, as it also helps break down grease and food residue. However, the vinegar-based mixture is less effective and requires more time to achieve similar results.
