Halifax app shuts down today as customers must switch to Lloyds
Halifax app closes today, customers must move to Lloyds

Halifax customers have until the end of today, Saturday, October 31, to move to the Lloyds banking app before Halifax's existing app and online banking services are withdrawn for good. The shutdown takes effect from November 1, ending digital access for those who have not made the switch.

Why the Halifax app is closing

The move is part of a major restructuring by Lloyds Banking Group, which announced earlier this year that it would gradually phase out the 173-year-old Halifax brand. Customers who continue to use the Halifax app will need to transfer to Lloyds to keep checking balances, making payments and managing accounts online.

The bank began closing its app in stages on October 5, with customers receiving messages explaining how to make the switch. Halifax has reassured customers that the process should only take a few clicks.

How to switch to the Lloyds app

On its website, the bank said: "We've started to close the Halifax app and online banking so it's now time to start using Lloyds."

Customers can begin the move by logging into their existing Halifax app and following the instructions provided. They will then be directed to download the Lloyds app, where they can continue using their existing login details.

Accounts, scheduled payments, statements and digital letters should all be available through the new service. Customers will not need to change their bank account numbers, sort codes, card details or PINs. Standing orders and Direct Debits will also continue as normal, meaning there is no need to set up regular payments again.

What happens if you don't switch

Those who already use the Lloyds app do not need to take any further action, as their Halifax accounts should already be accessible. However, anyone who has not switched will lose access to Halifax's app and online banking services once the shutdown is complete.

The bank has confirmed that debit and credit cards will continue working even if customers have not moved to the new app.

The changes follow Lloyds Banking Group's announcement in July that Halifax would eventually be brought under the Lloyds name. Halifax branches are also expected to be rebranded as Lloyds during 2027, although the group says the rebrand itself will not result in branch closures.

Customers are being advised to follow instructions through official banking channels and remain alert to scams. Halifax has warned that it will not ask customers to transfer money or provide security information as part of the switch.
