Michael Carrick is bidding to save his job as Manchester United face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the opening match of the latest Premier League weekend. Kick-off is at 12:30pm GMT, with the game broadcast live in the UK on TNT Sports 1 from 11:30am GMT. Subscribers can also stream the match online via the HBO Max app and website.
Pressure mounts on Carrick
Carrick has been offered a stay of execution despite heavy defeats by Como and Bournemouth over the past 10 days, which continued a poor start to the season and appeared to leave his position untenable. He now needs results quickly, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in attendance at today's match.
Bruno Fernandes is expected to return to the starting lineup and will retain the captaincy after clear-the-air talks with Carrick. Chelsea are boosted by Cole Palmer's comeback but remain without players such as Joao Pedro.
Alonso seeks a response
Chelsea counterpart Xabi Alonso faces less severe scrutiny, but he will be eager to bounce back after the Blues' winning momentum was halted by a rare home defeat by rivals Tottenham and a Carabao Cup penalty shootout loss at Liverpool.
Standard Sport's live coverage includes build-up, breaking team news and match updates, with Chelsea correspondent Dom Smith reporting from Stamford Bridge.
