Arsenal have taken a step back from pursuing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, with the transfer saga now almost one month old without the Gunners making an official approach for the Brazil international. According to sources in the capital, Arsenal have not held fresh conversations for Bruno so far this week, though discussions had been ongoing with his representatives.
Newcastle's Stance Remains Firm
Newcastle United are yet to receive a solid offer for Guimaraes, and the club insists the player is 'not for sale'. Well-placed sources confirmed to Chronicle Live last week that Guimaraes' transfer status remains unchanged. Newcastle are reportedly growing tired of leaks suggesting price tags for the player, which have been verbally discussed in the range of £45m to £60m.
Head coach Eddie Howe does not expect Guimaraes to follow the example of Alexander Isak and refuse to train, but he is not taking anything for granted. Newcastle are not in a strong position this summer, lacking European football to offer as an incentive. However, the Magpies are under no pressure to sell, having cleared up SCR legacy issues after the sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69.3m.
Transfer Activity and Squad Investment
Newcastle pushed through a £100m deal for Sandro Tonali, but the funds have been reinvested into the squad. The club has signed Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim and Sean Steur from Ajax, with more business expected. Keeping Guimaraes is key for Howe, as the Brazil midfielder has yet to attract a concrete offer.
Arsenal could return at any time with a push for the South American star, meaning Newcastle fans will remain cautious until the transfer window closes. Howe will only know if he has lost Guimaraes mentally when the player returns to training, recalling the 'earn the right' approach used last summer with Alexander Isak.
