Victor Munoz Says Emotional Goodbye After Liverpool Transfer

Victor Munoz has issued an emotional statement after completing his move to Liverpool, saying Osasuna will always be a special place to him. The 22-year-old winger became Andoni Iraola's first signing as Liverpool head coach on Thursday, with the Premier League club triggering his release clause of just under £35 million.

Emotional Farewell

Munoz, who is currently on international duty with Spain at the World Cup in North America, signed a six-year deal with Liverpool. He was reportedly close to joining Newcastle United before Liverpool swooped in. The winger will join his new teammates in pre-season ahead of the new Premier League campaign, which begins with a trip to Newcastle.

In a statement on Instagram, Munoz said: "It's never easy to say farewell to a place where you've been very happy and where you lived the best footballing year of your career. Since the first day, I felt very connected with this club, with its shirt and the values it represents."

He added: "I always tried to give everything on the pitch and give back all the love I received. I enjoyed every single moment at El Sadar - the magical afternoons and nights, the atmosphere, the unconditional support from fans and everything we've shared together. I will always carry them in my heart."

Gratitude and New Beginnings

Munoz thanked the club, staff, teammates, and fans for their support. "I want to thank the club for trusting me from the first moment, all the staff who helped me grow as a footballer and a person, and all my teammates who took me in from day one like the big family we are. We shared unforgettable moments. I'm leaving, but I'm taking away much more than football."

He also expressed gratitude to Navarra and Pamplona: "You made me feel at home and it's something I could never thank you enough for. This city will always have a special place in my heart."

Liverpool's Transfer Plans

Munoz is a versatile winger who primarily plays on the left but can operate across the front line. Liverpool are in urgent need of attacking reinforcements following Mohamed Salah's departure and Hugo Ekitike's ruptured Achilles, which will sideline him until at least 2027.

The ECHO understands that Liverpool are ready to make Yan Diomande one of the most expensive players in their history, with a €100 million (£86 million) package made available. Sources in Germany believe Liverpool's offer was official and rebuffed, with discussions ongoing.
