UK Haulage Firm JKM Transport Solutions Enters Liquidation

JKM Transport Solutions Ltd, a family-run haulage and freight company based in West Lothian, Scotland, has collapsed into liquidation, marking another significant blow to the UK transport industry amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The company appointed administrators on June 29, with the news published in the Edinburgh Gazette on July 3.

Liquidator Appointed and Company Details

George Lafferty, of BTG Begbies Traynor (Central) LLP, has been named as the liquidator overseeing the process. Companies House confirms the business has filed for insolvency, with a winding-up order commencing on June 29. At this early stage, there is no information regarding potential job losses.

JKM Transport Solutions describes itself as a small family-run haulage contractor located in West Lothian, Scotland. The business was incorporated in August 2021 and was approaching five years of trading. According to the company, it handled everything from long-distance hauls to local store deliveries, building strong relationships with customers and establishing a reputation for reliability and punctuality. It operated its fleet around the clock to meet industry demands.

Broader Impact on UK Haulage Industry

The development is yet another setback for the country's haulage and freight industries, which have faced numerous challenges throughout the year. Several companies have collapsed into administration or liquidation, including K2B Transportation Limited in the East Midlands in June and Sunhill Transport Limited in Shropshire in May. Additionally, HGV training company ELI Group, which provided training courses and lorry assessments, went into liquidation in May.

The Road Haulage Association (RHA) previously cautioned that insolvency rates could rise as the Middle East conflict placed additional strain on companies. RHA External Affairs Director David Boot said: "While insolvency rates have slowed slightly, they remain far too high and well above pre-pandemic levels. The numbers tell a sobering story: nearly 400 hauliers went out of business last year, 470 the year before, and over 500 in 2023."

The Mirror has approached JKM Transport Solutions Ltd for comment.
