Deliveroo has extended delivery hours for a number of outlets during England's World Cup campaign, allowing fans to celebrate late into the night. The move comes as match-day food orders surge, with data showing Brits are marking every twist and turn by ordering food and drink in their millions.
Extended Hours for Major Brands and Supermarkets
To keep up with demand, Deliveroo has partnered with major brands to offer later delivery times. Sainsbury's will keep 311 stores open until 11:30pm on July 6, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 19. Morrisons will extend hours at 72 stores until 11:30pm during England games only. Nando's will keep 346 stores open until 10:30pm for 9pm England kick-offs.
Deliveroo Plus members can also take advantage of 'Summer of Plus' deals, including buy-one-get-one-free dishes from McDonald's, Dishoom, Nando's, and KFC, plus 30% off selected items from supermarkets like Asda, Sainsbury's, and Morrisons.
Match-Day Food Trends Revealed
Deliveroo data reveals interesting trends among England fans. Sparkling wine orders increased by over 20% across the group stages before the final whistle. On the night of the Ghana draw, sparkling wine orders at 11pm spiked by 80%—the biggest surge of the entire group stage.
During the group stage, back-garden BBQs drove burger and sausage orders up by over a third. For the DR Congo knockout game, sweet treat orders doubled ahead of kick-off, while popcorn surged by over 70% as fans grazed through the nail-biting 90 minutes.
Surprisingly, clean eating has also become a football trend. Nervous Brits turned to healthy food to calm match-day anxiety, driving poke bowl orders up nearly 30% and salad orders up nearly 20% on match evenings.
Post-Match Feast and Recovery
Nothing beats a massive post-match feast. When England beat Croatia 4-2, takeaway orders in the hour after the final whistle surged by over 40%. For the 5pm Congo knockout game, curry orders skyrocketed by nearly 60% on the night.
All those late nights have led to tired mornings. Caffeine orders the morning after the first three games soared across the country, with Sheffield leading the national hangover recovery at 30% increase.
