Swansea City have confirmed Ben Stevens as their new sporting director. Stevens joins after serving as assistant sporting director at Crystal Palace, having previously served as the club's head of performance analysis, before taking on a role in recruitment.

He leaves the Eagles after 11 years, having taken his most recent role there back in 2024, with his time in the post coinciding with the most successful period in the club's history. In the last 12 months, the Eagles have won an FA Cup, Community Shield and a UEFA Conference League title.

With spells as an analyst at Newcastle United and Southampton also on his CV, he has now taken on the role of Sporting Director in his own right at Swansea.

The position has been vacant since Director of Football, Richard Montague, left in September 2025. It's understood the formalities of a move were completed after the conclusion of Palace's European run, with Swansea opting to wait until after events in Leipzig as a show of respect to the Eagles.

Commenting on his appointment, Stevens said: “I would like to thank Tom and the board for their support during the hiring process and giving me the opportunity to work alongside Vitor, the backroom staff and players in the role of sporting director.

“Having worked in a number of roles at a variety of clubs over the last 20 years I believe it gives me the necessary attributes to help maximise the club's potential.

“I believe in the project at Swansea City and the club has huge potential. I am excited at the prospect of bringing everyone together on this journey to help us achieve future success.”

His appointment comes on the back of a rigorous search over the last few weeks, with the Swans speaking to a number of possible candidates. Former Everton and Manchester United chief Steve Brown and Swans legend Michu were among the candidates spoken to, while Mikael Dorsin was also linked.

“I am sure you will all join me in giving Ben a warm welcome to the club,” said Swansea City chief executive, Tom Gorringe.

“As previously outlined, the club only planned on making an appointment of this nature if we felt a candidate who was the correct fit for Swansea City was available, and we firmly believe Ben possesses the qualities we were looking for.

“He has helped Crystal Palace enjoy the most successful period in their history and, out of respect for Ben and Palace, we have chosen to formally announce his appointment following the conclusion of their season and their European success.

“We look forward to Ben getting down to work at Fairwood in the coming weeks.”

Stevens will officially begin his role on July 10.
