Mohamed Salah is yet to join a new club following his Liverpool exit this summer, with Italian giants Roma and Juventus reportedly exploring the possibility of signing the 34-year-old winger. However, both clubs may face significant financial obstacles in meeting Salah's wage demands, according to reports from The Mail.
Salah, who left Anfield after his contract expired, has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia for some time, while the United States and Turkey have also been mooted as potential destinations. Speaking ahead of the World Cup, Salah stated that his future would be resolved after the tournament. "I am still assessing things," he said. "I have time now. I am going to the World Cup and then everything will become clear."
Liverpool's Transfer Activity and World Cup Impact
Liverpool's summer transfer business has been modest so far, with the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna representing their only addition. The ongoing World Cup has complicated transfer dealings for many clubs, including Liverpool. Manager Andoni Iraola is expected to assess his current squad before making further moves, though more arrivals are anticipated.
Meanwhile, Liverpool and Arsenal are both reportedly interested in Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who has been impressing at the World Cup. However, former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly has advised the 23-year-old to reject a big-money move to the Premier League and remain at PSG.
Barcola Advised to Stay at PSG
Desailly, a former French international, expressed concerns about Barcola's defensive discipline and readiness for the Premier League. "Barcola doesn't need to leave PSG," Desailly said. "He's too young. Didier Deschamps is teaching him a lesson and giving him a chance. I thought that for Barcola to start and play 90 minutes at the international level, he wouldn't do it because Barcola is too light on defensive discipline."
Desailly highlighted Barcola's weaknesses in defensive alertness, noting that he does not make the effort to track back. "When you look at his previous matches with PSG, or even some of the matches he did for the national team during the Euros, he had that weakness. He's young; the attention and defensive alertness isn't there to match the speed he projects when he's going forward. He wasn't making the effort to get back into position. So, should he move to the Premier League? Not yet. Not yet at all. Sorry Arsenal and Liverpool fans. He should stay at Paris Saint-Germain, play 25 games a season, and grow within that system."
PSG value Barcola at over £100 million and are determined not to sell the winger, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal. Liverpool have reportedly shifted their focus to Barcola after missing out on other targets, but Desailly's advice may give the player pause.
Liverpool's Future Plans
Liverpool's transfer strategy under Iraola remains unclear, but the club is likely to make further additions once the World Cup concludes. With Salah's departure, the Reds are in need of attacking reinforcements, and Barcola had been identified as a potential target. However, with Desailly's warning and PSG's firm stance, Liverpool may need to look elsewhere.
As the transfer window progresses, Salah's future remains a key storyline. The Egyptian star is expected to command a significant wage, which could limit his options. Roma and Juventus are keen but may struggle to afford him, while Saudi Arabian clubs remain interested. The United States and Turkey also present possible destinations, but no deal has been finalized yet.
