Murphy 'Bargain Fee' Transfer Perfect for Moyes Everton

Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy has emerged as a prime target for Everton, with former scout Mick Brown claiming the 31-year-old is exactly the type of player David Moyes wants. Murphy, who has one year remaining on his contract, could be available for a bargain fee, making him an attractive option for the Toffees.

Murphy's Profile Fits Moyes' Blueprint

Brown, who worked as chief scout at Manchester United and remains closely connected to Moyes, told Football Insider: "Jacob Murphy is exactly the type of player David Moyes likes to work with. He's hard-working, experienced, reliable, he's a direct winger who likes to get down the line and get crosses into the box, so he could suit what Everton are trying to do."

Everton have been linked with a move for Murphy, who has been a regular under Eddie Howe at Newcastle. He enjoyed an impressive 2024-25 campaign but struggled to match those levels last season. Now the club's longest-serving player, any transfer fee earned from his sale would count as pure profit in PSR terms.

Balance in the Squad

Brown highlighted that Everton have recently brought in more technical players like Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye, but Murphy offers a different dimension. "You need to find a balance in the squad, and Moyes likes to have players who he knows are going to give him 100 per cent every week," Brown added.

With Murphy able to leave on a free next summer unless he signs a new deal, Everton could secure him for a reduced fee. "You mention his contract situation, so they could get it done for a bargain fee, and that would be a very good deal for Everton," Brown said.

No Official Move Yet

Everton are yet to make an official approach, but the interest is clear. Murphy faces competition from Anthony Elanga for a place on the right side of Newcastle's attack, and a move could benefit all parties. The Toffees have yet to comment on the speculation.
