Manchester United have confirmed three summer signings this week, with Youri Tielemans becoming the latest addition to Michael Carrick's squad. The club is rebuilding its midfield after selling Scott McTominay to Napoli in 2024.
United's Busy Transfer Window
Andrey Santos was the first signing, joining from Chelsea in a £50 million deal confirmed on Monday. Karl Darlow arrived on a free transfer after his contract with Leeds United expired. Tielemans was announced on Tuesday after United activated his £35 million release clause at Aston Villa.
The midfield focus comes after United offloaded McTominay, who has since become a key player for Napoli and led Scotland to the World Cup. However, Scotland failed to progress beyond the group stage.
Allegri's Warning to McTominay
McTominay has not yet returned to Napoli after the World Cup. New manager Massimiliano Allegri has sent a clear message to the squad about discipline and professionalism. "I learned from an old coach. Until I see and coach players, making judgments from outside is always very difficult. I'm taking it with me," Allegri said. "We'll get to know each other. Values are important. McTominay and Noa Lang will arrive before August 5. It will be important to work with seriousness and professionalism and above all, to lay the groundwork for reaching March. As I always say, that's when seasons are decided, still in contention for all our objectives: Serie A, the Champions League, the Italian Cup."
Ander Herrera Returns to Real Zaragoza
Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has completed an emotional return to his boyhood club, Real Zaragoza, after leaving Boca Juniors. Herrera joined United in 2014 for £29 million and made nearly 200 appearances, winning the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League before departing for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. He later played for Athletic Bilbao and Boca Juniors.
Zaragoza's club website announced his arrival on a one-year deal, stating: "Ander's return is an unequivocal sign of belonging and represents the return of a Zaragoza native at a crucial moment for the club's future." Herrera first joined Zaragoza at age 11.
What's Next for United?
With Champions League football secured under Carrick, United continue to strengthen. The club's transfer activity suggests a focus on midfield depth, though further departures or arrivals could still occur before the window closes.
