Manchester United have announced three new signings this week, with Youri Tielemans becoming the latest addition on Tuesday night. The Belgian midfielder joins from Aston Villa for £35 million, following the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea for £50 million and Karl Darlow to bolster the goalkeeping ranks.
Tielemans Joins After World Cup Campaign
Tielemans' move was confirmed on Tuesday, and he is expected to be given a short break before fully integrating with his new teammates, as Belgium reached the World Cup quarter-finals. The 29-year-old adds experience to United's midfield after a successful spell at Villa Park.
Santos and Darlow Add Depth
Andrey Santos, a 21-year-old Brazilian midfielder, arrives from Chelsea in a £50 million transfer, bulking out the midfield options. Karl Darlow, the experienced goalkeeper, provides backup and competition between the posts. The moves come after a slow start to United's transfer window, but fans have been rewarded with these additions ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
Ander Herrera Completes Fairytale Return
Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has sealed an emotional return to his boyhood club, Real Zaragoza, after leaving Boca Juniors. Herrera, who joined United in 2014 for £29 million, made nearly 200 appearances over five seasons, winning the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Europa League. He departed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019, followed by spells at Athletic Bilbao and in Argentina. Now, he rejoins Zaragoza on a one-year contract, the club he first joined at age 11.
Zaragoza's official statement highlighted: "Ander's return is an unequivocal sign of belonging and represents the return of a Zaragoza native at a crucial moment for the club's future."
Scott McTominay's Napoli Return Date Set
Scott McTominay, who joined Napoli in 2024, has become a standout performer in Serie A and a key figure for the Italian side. He also guided Scotland to the World Cup this summer, though they were eliminated in the group stage. McTominay has not yet returned to Napoli after the tournament, but new boss Massimiliano Allegri has set his return date and offered advice.
Allegri stated: "I learned from an old coach. Until I see and coach players, making judgments from outside is always very difficult. I'm taking it with me. We'll get to know each other. Values are important. McTominay and [Noa] Lang will arrive before [August 5]. It will be important to work with seriousness and professionalism and above all, to lay the groundwork for reaching March. As I always say, that's when seasons are decided, still in contention for all our objectives: Serie A, the Champions League, the Italian Cup."
