Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe, 30, has pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm after pulling a braid from his ex-girlfriend's head during an argument outside her home in Lambeth, south London. The incident occurred on December 14, when Ibe and Amie Mayson argued over money she claimed he owed her.
Details of the Assault
Croydon Magistrates' Court heard that Ibe arrived carrying a bag containing drinks, snacks, and flowers. The argument escalated when Ms Mayson threw muffins on the floor and called Ibe a “druggy.” In response, Ibe grabbed her by the hair and pulled a braid from her head, leaving her with a bald patch.
Ibe, who made 41 appearances for Liverpool before stints at AFC Bournemouth, Derby County, and Birmingham City, initially denied the charge in March. However, on Tuesday, July 14, he changed his plea to guilty.
Victim Impact Statement
A victim statement from February, read to the court, detailed the lasting impact on Ms Mayson. It stated: “Looking in the mirror is very distressing for me, the injury is a constant reminder of what happened and often leaves me feeling emotionally drained and upset.” The attack affected her confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth.
Court Proceedings
In court, Ibe wore a black jacket and trousers and spoke to confirm his personal details. He initially gave his postcode incorrectly, apologizing: “Sorry, I’m a bit nervous.” District Judge Polly Gledhill noted: “We are in community order territory and I am going to ask for a pre-sentence report. I am not ruling anything out.” She urged Ibe to be “as honest and open” with probation officers ahead of his sentencing.
Bail and Sentencing
Ibe, who lives between Chislehurst, south-east London, and Bulgaria, was granted bail with conditions not to contact Ms Mayson or visit her address. He is due to be sentenced at the same court on September 4.
