Man United Set for £17m Greenwood Sell-On Windfall Ahead of Santos Deal
Man United Set for £17m Greenwood Windfall

Manchester United are poised for a significant financial boost to their summer transfer budget, even as they prepare to finalise the £50million signing of Chelsea midfielder Andrey Santos. MEN Sport understands that the 22-year-old Brazilian is expected to undergo a medical at Old Trafford before signing a long-term contract, with the deal likely to be announced in the coming days following Brazil's exit from the World Cup.

Greenwood Nearing Fenerbahce Move

Meanwhile, former United forward Mason Greenwood is closing in on a £34.1million transfer to Turkish club Fenerbahce from Marseille. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the deal is expected to be completed after weeks of negotiations, with Fenerbahce increasing their offer and including add-ons to meet Marseille's £42million valuation.

Greenwood, who left United for Marseille in a £26.6million move in 2024, has attracted interest from several European clubs after scoring 26 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions in the 2025/26 season. Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Juventus have all monitored his situation, but Fenerbahce are leading the race.

Sell-On Clause to Deliver £17m Windfall

United are understood to have inserted a sell-on clause in the agreement with Marseille, entitling them to up to 50 per cent of any future transfer fee. This would give them a £17million boost to their transfer budget, offsetting the £48million up-front payment to Chelsea for Santos.

The sell-on clause was part of the deal that took Greenwood to the Stade Velodrome in 2024 after United concluded he could no longer remain at the club. The academy graduate was suspended by United in 2022 when he was charged with attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behaviour. He denied the charges, which were later dropped, but found himself on the fringes at Old Trafford before a season-long loan at Getafe and subsequent permanent move to Marseille.

Greenwood's Future Uncertain

Greenwood had previously indicated a desire to stay with Marseille. Speaking after being named in Ligue 1's team of the season, he said: "This season has sometimes been difficult collectively, especially in recent months, but individually, I think I've had a good season. There are some incredible players in this team of the year, so it's nice to receive this trophy. Ligue 1 is a wonderful league. We play incredible matches and, for me, it's one of the best leagues I've played in. I hope I can stay."

Despite his comments, Marseille appear to have accepted Fenerbahce's offer, paving the way for Greenwood's departure. The transfer is expected to be completed in the coming weeks, with United set to benefit financially from the move.
