Italian Serie A side Cagliari have officially announced the signing of former Everton midfielder Ademide Akarakiri. The 18-year-old rejected new contract terms offered by the Premier League club this summer and has instead moved to Sardinia.
Rise through the ranks
Akarakiri made 33 appearances for Everton's Under-21s and Under-18s last season, showing glimpses of promise. He initially rose through Arsenal's academy before joining Everton two years ago. He was part of a promising U18s group at Finch Farm and impressed when stepping up to the U21s in competitions such as the Premier League International Cup.
Rejection of new terms
Everton had hoped to retain the youngster and offered him new terms, but Akarakiri opted to move to Cagliari. The Serie A side had spent much of last season scouting him.
Cagliari's announcement
Cagliari confirmed his arrival on Saturday, describing him as “one of the most exciting prospects of his generation.” They added: “A promising player, Akarakiri joins the Rossoblu to embark on a development journey with the goal of further developing his talent and guiding him through the transition to professional football.”
