Everton could benefit from another transfer move that does not directly involve them this summer, as interest grows in former striker Youssef Chermiti. The 22-year-old, now at Rangers, has attracted attention from French club Lyon and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, potentially triggering a sell-on clause inserted by Everton when he left last summer.
Chermiti's Move to Rangers and Sell-On Clause
Chermiti joined Rangers in an initial £8m deal, with £2m in add-ons, after a difficult two-year spell at Everton. His first season in Scotland proved successful, scoring 15 goals in the Scottish Premiership, including two braces against Celtic. This form has sparked interest from Lyon, according to the Daily Record, while PSV Eindhoven had previously been linked.
Rangers are reportedly holding out for an offer they cannot refuse, but any sale would also benefit Everton due to the sell-on clause negotiated in the deal.
Previous Windfall from Anthony Gordon Sale
Everton have already profited from a similar clause this summer. Newcastle United sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £69m, and Everton received 15% of the profit, around £3.6m. This precedent highlights the potential financial boost from Chermiti's departure.
Impact on Everton's Finances
While the exact percentage of Chermiti's sell-on clause has not been disclosed, any significant transfer fee would provide a welcome cash injection for Everton. The club has been managing financial constraints and such windfalls help in complying with Profit and Sustainability Rules.
