Eleven UK Travel Firms Collapse Amid Middle East Conflict

Eleven travel firms have gone into administration over recent months as the travel sector has been hammered by the continuing Middle East conflict. The shutdowns since the beginning of the year have sparked flight disruption and left workers facing job losses as a consequence. In several instances, holidays have been axed completely, leaving punters desperately seeking refunds or compensation.

Oxfordshire Travel Limited Enters Liquidation

In Oxfordshire, coach and passenger land transport company Oxfordshire Travel Limited, situated near Kidlington, entered liquidation in October 2025. The firm had operated for a decade before administrators were called in, after it was established the business could no longer continue trading or pay its debts, reports the Mirror.

Set Sail Cruises Ltd and The Padel Travel Club Close

Set Sail Cruises Ltd, also located in Oxfordshire, was wound up on March 17, 2026, with all scheduled voyages scrapped as a result. The agency was merely two years old, having been established on February 4, 2024. In the same county, The Padel Travel Club Limited also closed down with roughly £41,000 in short-term liabilities - any excursions that were yet to commence were then axed. The company was established in February 2023 and has since been removed from the Companies House register following a voluntary strike-off. Records indicate the firm collapsed with short-term liabilities of just over £40,000 and inadequate assets to settle creditors completely, although a final liquidation report remains unavailable.

Other Travel Companies Affected

Numerous other travel companies have also experienced the devastating impact of the beleaguered sector. London-headquartered Regen Central Ltd, an ATOL-licensed travel operator offering flight-and-accommodation packages to Europe and Southeast Asia, had its ATOL revoked on January 13. Subsequently, the business entered liquidation and scrapped all reservations. Another travel company, Simply Florida Travel Ltd, situated in Glasgow and renowned for marketing "dream holidays" including excursions to Disney World, was deprived of its ATOL holder credentials after dissolving in early January. Holiday-makers were left pursuing refunds as all packages and flights were consequently axed.

Gold Crest Holidays and Other Casualties

Gold Crest Holidays, a coach-tour firm operating journeys throughout the UK and internationally, also went under and stopped operating in early 2026. After the liquidation, all employees were dismissed. Countless other travel businesses have similarly ceased operations or wound up since 2025. These include Asiara UK Ltd, Jetline Travel Ltd, Great Little Escapes LLP and New Era Travel. More recently, Strachan Travel Ltd, a Lancashire-situated company established in 1983, went into voluntary liquidation. Resolutions to dissolve the business were logged on June 11, with liquidators designated on June 16, according to The Gazette.

Impact and Outlook

The downfall of these companies arrives during a time of extensive instability within the travel industry, after alerts were issued by the Government and airlines due to the Middle East conflict. Nevertheless, with a peace deal now finalised and various travel limitations removed, there's fresh optimism for the sector.
