Jarrod Bowen has dealt a significant blow to Manchester United's transfer plans by committing his future to West Ham United. The 29-year-old winger, previously linked with a move to Old Trafford following West Ham's relegation from the Premier League, has signed a new contract with the Championship club.
Bowen's Commitment to West Ham
In a video released by West Ham, Bowen outlined his determination to help the club secure promotion back to the Premier League. He revealed that he met with club chairman Daniel Kretinsky and vice-chairman Jiri Svarc in Prague to discuss the club's ambitions. "The ambition that I got from them, certainly in terms of the direction the Club wants to move in, it interests me a lot," Bowen said. "It didn't take a lot for me, because this Club means a lot to me."
Bowen added: "I did an interview after the [Leeds United] game and said my vision is to get this Club back in the Premier League. Sometimes you think it falls on deaf ears and people say 'he's just saying that'. There have been things written and different things said and you have to look at it and bite your tongue sometimes. But when I say something, I don't hide away from it."
New Contract Details
According to a report from The Athletic, Bowen has signed a new contract with West Ham, though it does not extend beyond his current deal which runs until 2030. The fresh terms effectively rule out any summer transfer, including a potential move to Manchester United.
United had been credited with an interest in Bowen following West Ham's relegation, but the winger's commitment ends that speculation. The Reds have already signed three players this summer: midfielders Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, and goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
Alternative Targets for United
Despite missing out on Bowen, Manchester United could still target another West Ham winger. The club has been tracking Dutch international Crysencio Summerville, who has returned from the World Cup. Roma are also among the clubs pursuing the former Leeds United attacker.
Bowen's decision to stay at West Ham underscores his loyalty to the club and his desire to lead them back to the Premier League. For United, attention now turns to other potential signings as the summer transfer window progresses.
