A British Airways flight from Bridgetown, Barbados, to London Heathrow was cancelled on Sunday after crew members reportedly got drunk at a hotel bar hours before departure, according to The Sun. The incident left up to 336 passengers stranded.
Details of the Incident
The affected flight, BA254, was scheduled to depart at 4:25 PM local time and arrive in the UK at 6:15 AM on Monday. However, the crew's behaviour led to its cancellation. Reports indicate that the crew engaged in a 'vodka and beer session' at an all-inclusive ocean-front resort popular with honeymooners. One female cabin crew member vomited, and a male colleague collapsed and had to be carried to his room. Other guests filmed the crew, with one reportedly saying, 'We're British Airways crew, what of it?'
Investigation and Suspensions
British Airways has suspended several crew members pending an investigation. A spokesperson stated: 'We expect the highest standards of our crew, and we are urgently investigating this matter.' Airline insiders confirmed that colleagues have been stood down while the probe continues.
Impact and Costs
The cancellation affected up to 336 passengers. A source told The Sun that the cost of the cancelled flight and the crew's behaviour could run into hundreds of thousands of pounds, especially if BA must arrange new accommodation for future Barbados trips. The airline is also facing potential reputational damage and compensation claims.
