Two flood warnings are now active across Merseyside as Storm Boelo continues to bring strong winds and heavy rain to the region, with flooding expected in New Brighton and parts of Liverpool this evening.
A further three flood alerts, where flooding is possible, have also been issued for areas including Hoylake and the River Alt catchment.
New Brighton warning
Earlier today, the government issued a specific flood warning for New Brighton in the Wirral. The warning states that flooding from the Irish Sea is expected in the seaside resort this evening because of high tides, with flooding expected from 10.45pm.
The locations most affected will be Marine Point Leisure and Retail Park. The next high tide is anticipated tomorrow afternoon, 25 October 2026, and is expected to meet the flood alert threshold.
A statement issued with the warning added: "We are expecting higher than normal high tides over the next two days, and a result, we may issue further flood alerts and flood warnings."
New warning for Clubmoor
A new flood warning has been issued this evening for expected flooding in Liverpool, focusing on the Tue Brook river, a tributary of the River Alt which flows through the West Derby area.
The warning centres on the Clubmoor area of the city, with Lindsay Road, Abingdon Road, Daneville Road and Frampton Road all highlighted as vulnerable areas.
The government says it expects flooding to occur in these areas, urging people to take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water if possible.
Flood alerts across the region
While these are the two explicit flood warnings for the region, where flooding is expected, there are numerous other locations where flooding is possible.
The government website lists Hoylake in Wirral as another area that could be affected by high tides in the Irish Sea. A warning for the River Alt could also put a large number of Merseyside areas at risk, with river levels rising potentially putting watercourses from Huyton to Hightown in jeopardy, including Kirkby, Fazakerley, Maghull, Formby, Aughton, Sefton and Lunt.
A flood alert has also been issued for the Lower River Douglas.
