Met Office issues second fog warning for five Welsh areas
Second Met Office fog warning for five Welsh areas

The Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning covering five parts of Wales, with forecasters warning of possible travel delays. The yellow fog warning, issued overnight, came into force at midnight on Sunday.

Second warning in two days

It follows a similar warning issued on Saturday covering areas in the north of the country. The latest warning is more widespread, with forecasters warning that heavy and dense fog could result in visibility of less than 100 metres in some areas.

The heavy fog warning is in place until 10am, but the Met Office said people should be prepared for changes to weather conditions. Some patches of fog could persist for much of the morning, the weather agency warned.

Areas covered and expected impact

The warning covers areas in Denbighshire, Monmouthshire, Powys, Torfaen and Wrexham. People should expect traffic delays due to the heavy fog.

The Met Office said: “Fog has developed widely and will persist across many areas into Sunday morning before slowly lifting and clearing. Visibility will vary from place to place with some dense fog patches bringing visibility of less than 100 metres making for difficult travel conditions.”

Travel advice and forecast

Forecasters at the Met Office recommended checking road conditions before driving and making sure fog lights were functional. The poor conditions could also lead to some flight cancellations, as well as issues for those travelling by bus and train. The Met Office said to check for updates from travel companies and follow their advice.

While the fog gradually clears, thick cloud will remain in Wales for much of the day. The full Met Office forecast for Wales on Sunday states: "Mist and fog patches will gradually lift to allow some bright spells to develop for a while. However, a weather front will feed thicker cloud and some drizzle southeastwards across the country as the day unfolds. Staying quite mild. Maximum temperature 13C."
