The Met Office has identified 24 areas across the UK that will face heavy rain on Thursday, 10 September. According to the latest weather maps, the most affected regions will be northern Scotland and the north-west of England.
Rain across the UK
Eastern areas of Wales are also likely to see heavy rain and showers, along with parts of southern England, including Cornwall. The Met Office forecast for the rest of the week said: "Wet and breezy weather arrives from the west on Thursday, though staying fine in the southeast. Rain clearing to leave sunshine and showers on Friday. Turning unsettled again on Sunday."
Another forecast added that the weather will likely "remain changeable, with occasional rain or showers arriving from the North Atlantic, most frequent across northern and western parts of the UK, where some strong winds will also be possible at times".
Mid-September warmth ahead
These conditions may not last long, as they will precede a mid-September heat boost that could start as soon as Saturday, 12 September, when temperatures are set to reach 23°C or more across parts of the UK. During that period, the East of England is set to be the warmest area, with several counties likely to reach 28°C.
Other areas, including Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales, are set to experience milder temperatures, which are expected to remain in the early 20s.

England: Durham, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, Lincolnshire, Cornwall.
Wales: Anglesey, Caernarfonshire, Montgomeryshire, Cardiganshire, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Glamorgan, Monmouthshire.
