Manchester Airport is experiencing significant disruption today (Tuesday, September 8) with dozens of flights delayed and several cancelled. Over 72 flights have been delayed at the north west travel hub, with more disruption expected this evening.
Technical issue affects UK-wide departures
The chaos is due to a technical issue affecting the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) across UK airports. Only departing flights are impacted, with arrivals continuing as normal.
NATS said: "We are investigating a technical issue which is causing some disruption to flight departures." The air traffic control service confirmed engineers are on site working to resolve the problem. They apologised for delays and advised passengers to check with airlines for flight updates.

A Manchester Airport spokesperson said they are monitoring the situation closely. The airport is advising passengers to check their flight status online before travelling.
Other major airports including Heathrow and Birmingham are also affected by the nationwide technical fault. Passengers are urged to stay informed through their airlines as the situation develops.
