Liverpool could be without as many as eight players for Wednesday night's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid at Anfield. Cody Gakpo is the latest concern after missing training on Tuesday, though his absence is understood to be precautionary.
Gakpo doubt and long-term absentees
Gakpo's availability remains uncertain, but several others are definitely ruled out. Hugo Ekitike continues his recovery from a serious Achilles' injury sustained in April, while Conor Bradley is nursing a knee injury from January. Giovanni Leoni is in the final stages of rehabilitation from a knee injury suffered in September last year.
Joe Gomez is closing in on a return after a hamstring injury picked up in the opening minutes of the club's first pre-season fixture. Federico Chiesa has not appeared for Liverpool this season and is omitted from the Champions League squad, as is Wataru Endo.
Atletico's own absentees
Atletico Madrid also have injury concerns. Striker Alexander Sorloth is sidelined with a muscle complaint, while Arnau Ortiz is suspended following a red card in his last European appearance in August 2024.
Liverpool secured their first win under Andoni Iraola last week, beating Ipswich Town 2-0 away with both goals from Alexander Isak.
