Liverpool fans warned of dangerous winds at Anfield Sunday

Liverpool fans heading to Anfield on Sunday to watch Liverpool FC face Brighton are being warned of potentially dangerous weather, as Storm Boelo continues to batter the region with high winds and heavy rain.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind that remains in place throughout tomorrow, ending at 9pm. Wind speeds could exceed 50mph in Liverpool for most of the day, with the potential for injuries and danger to life from flying debris, as well as damage to buildings and trees.

Travel Disruptions Expected

The Met Office warns that road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible. Merseyrail has already announced that some of the first scheduled trains tomorrow will run without passengers as a precaution to ensure rail lines are clear and safe to use. If an issue is found, further services may be cancelled.

Customers, including those travelling for the football, are urged to check the Merseyrail website or app before travelling, as service information will be updated throughout the day. Rail replacement buses will run between Sandhills, Rock Ferry and Moorfields stations as planned.

Drier but Windy Conditions on Sunday

While the windy conditions are expected to continue into Sunday, the forecast shows much smaller percentages of rain in Liverpool compared to today's thunderous downpours. However, Merseyside Police has warned that the windy conditions on Sunday still present dangers.

A statement from the force reads: "Storm Boelo will bring high winds to Merseyside on Sunday meaning driving conditions will be challenging and coastal areas will be dangerous." The force advises drivers to keep their speed down, keep their eyes on the road at all times, be aware of hazards like fallen trees or traffic lights that are out, and watch out for surface water.
